Biography:

Shyam S. Mohapatra, PhD, MBA has had a distinguished career in academia in research, teaching and service at USF since 1996. His research has brought USF over $30 million in extramural funds, and he has published over 200 papers and holds over 40 U.S. and foreign patents. He is recognized for his many inventions in the field of nanoscale biomedical diagnostics and therapeutics in cancers, asthma, viral infections, and traumatic brain injury. In cancers, his inventions and co-inventions have led to several technology platforms and products for innovative anti-cancer drug discovery, drug development, and personalized cancer treatment. His research has spawned inventions that have spun out companies. He co-founded Transgenex Nanobiotech Inc, a USF spin-out company that focuses on commercializing nanoscale innovations. He is a Charter Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors; a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology; American Association of Medical and Biological Engineers; and American Association of Advancement of Science; and is one of the inaugural (2014) inductees of the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame.

Since 2014, he has served as Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at the USF College of Pharmacy and established a highly innovative Master of Science program in Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology with additional concentrations in Drug Discovery and Development and Biomedical Engineering. This program has grown exponentially, generating a revenue of ~$1 million in three years. He has been the faculty advisor in creating a student organization, NANO (New Advances in Nanotechnology Organization), which has grown to more than 50 members. He has created and is the founding president of a non-profit organization, Florida Association for Nanobiotechnology (>200 members), which encompasses all academic and industry institutions in the State of Florida engaged in research and education of nanobiotechnology. In research, he founded and has directed the VA Colorectal Cancer Cell-genomics Consortium since 2017, which encompasses a collaborative network of research programs in colorectal cancers at ~12 different VA Hospitals.

Biography:

Before taking the current post at Bradford, Yakun was a Postdoctoral Associate at Dundee University and a Reader at Aberdeen University. He has more than twenty years experience in environmental hydraulics, numerical simulation of turbulent flows, flow-structure-interaction, marine renewable energy and coastal and estuary hydrodynamics and sediment transport. Yakun studied Hydraulic Engineering at Sichuan University, China, obtaining a BEng (first class Honours) in Hydrology and Water Resources (1983) and PhD in Hydraulics (1989). Yakun was an Associate Professor of Sichuan University and the vice director of the Institute of Hydraulics of High Speed Flow at Sichuan University prior to coming to UK. His research work is funded by the EPSRC, KTP, ETP (Energy Technology Partnership), NSFC (China). He has published over 260+ papers in peer-reviewed journals (160+) and international conferences, and received the 2006 ASCE Journal of Hydraulic Engineering Best Technical Note Award. He has been a member of the UK EPSRC Peer Review College since 2006 and a reviewer for a number of research councils, including the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI); the NWO Research Council, etc and a reviewer of China State Natural Science Award.  

Biography:

Dr. Osman Adiguzel graduated from Department of Physics, Ankara University, Turkey in 1974 and received PhD- degree from Dicle University, Diyarbakir-Turkey. He studied at Surrey University, Guildford, UK, as a post doctoral research scientist in 1986-1987, and his studies focused on shape memory alloys. He worked as research assistant, 1975-80, at Dicle University and shifted to Firat University in 1980. He became professor in 1996, and he has been retired due to the age limit of 67, following academic life of 45 years.

He published over 80 papers in international and national journals; He joined over 120 conferences and symposia in international and national level as Plenary Speaker, Keynote Speaker, Invited speaker, speaker or Poster presenter. He served the program chair or conference chair/co-chair in some of these activities. In particular, he joined in last six years (2014 - 2019) over 60 conferences as Speaker, Keynote Speaker and Conference Co-Chair organized by different companies in different countries.

Additionally, he retired at the end of November 2019, and contributed with Keynote/Plenary Speeches over 60 Virtual/Webinar Conferences, due to the coronavirus outbreak in two year of his retirement, 2020 and 2021.

Dr. Adiguzel served his directorate of Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Firat University in 1999-2004. He supervised 5 PhD- theses and 3 M. Sc theses. He is also technical committee member of many conferences. He received a certificate which is being awarded to him and his experimental group in recognition of   significant contribution of 2 patterns to the Powder Diffraction File – Release 2000. The ICDD (International Centre for Diffraction Data) also appreciates cooperation of his group and interest in Powder Diffraction File.

Scientific fields of Dr. Adiguzel:  Shape memory effect and displacive phase transformations in shape memory alloys and other alloys, molecular dynamics simulations, alloy modeling, electron microscopy, electron diffraction, x-ray diffraction and crystallography.

Biography:

João Manuel R. S. Tavares graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the Universidade do Porto, Portugal in 1992. He also earned his M.Sc. degree and Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Universidade do Porto in 1995 and 2001, and attained his Habilitation in Mechanical Engineering in 2015. He is a senior researcher at the Instituto de Ciência e Inovação em Engenharia Mecânica e Engenharia Industrial (INEGI) and Full Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEMec) of the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP).

João Tavares is co-editor of more than 75 books, co-author of more than 50 book chapters, 650 articles in international and national journals and conferences, and 3 international and 3 national patents. He has been a committee member of several international and national journals and conferences, is co-founder and co-editor of the book series “Lecture Notes in Computational Vision and Biomechanics” published by Springer, founder and Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering: Imaging & Visualization” published by Taylor & Francis, Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering” published by Taylor & Francis, and co-founder and co-chair of the international conference series: CompIMAGE, ECCOMAS VipIMAGE, ICCEBS and BioDental. Additionally, he has been (co-)supervisor of several MSc and PhD thesis and supervisor of several post-doc projects, and has participated in many scientific projects both as researcher and as scientific coordinator.

His main research areas include computational vision, medical imaging, computational mechanics, scientific visualization, human-computer interaction and new product development.

Prof. Solhe F. Alshahateet is a Professor of Organic and Supramolecular Chemistry graduated in 2003 from the University of New South Wales (UNSW, Australia). He worked as the President of Aqaba University of Technology (AUT, 2017-2019, Jordan). He works as a Full Professor at Mutah University (Jordan) since 2007. He received many awards such as Australian Research Council and Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education scholarships. He engaged in many projects from local and international funding agencies. Prof. Alshahateet attended many conferences worldwide. He published more than 73 articles mostly in international journals dealing with crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry involving industrial applications. In addition, he is working as a referee and editorial board member for many international specialized journals. Highlights of his research have been in the area of synthesis and characterization of semiconducting materials, organic materials for and industrial applications (functional materials) such as pharmaceutical industry. After completing his PhD (2003) at the UNSW, he undertook research in new synthesis chemistry as a Research Fellow at UNSW for about one year. Since then he had undertaken research into synthesis of new organic materials at the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences ICES, Singapore. He had research visitor appointments at the University of New South Wales (Australia) and at the University of South Florida (USA).

Dr. Dan Zhang is a Kaneff Professor and Tier 1 York Research Chair in Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University. From July 1, 2004, to December 31, 2015, Dr. Zhang was a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Advanced Robotics and Automation, was a founding Chair of the Department of Automotive, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering with the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science at University of Ontario Institute of Technology.

He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Laval University in June, 2000. Dr. Zhang’s contributions to and leadership within the field of robotic and automation have been recognized with several prestigious awards, within his own university (Lassonde Innovation Awards --- Established Researcher in 2018, Research Excellence Award both from university level in 2009 and faculty level in 2008), the Province of Ontario (Early Researcher Award in 2010), the professional societies (election to Fellow of the CAE in 2017, the ASME in 2016, the EIC in 2012 and the CSME in 2010) and federal funding agencies (Canada Research Chair in January 2009 and renewed in January 2014). As well, he was awarded the Inaugural Teaching Excellence by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science of UOIT in 2006 and the Best Professor Award by UOIT Engineering Students' Society in 2012. Dr. Zhang was listed as the World’s Top Two Percent Researchers by Stanford’s Standardized Citation Indicators in 2020.

Dr. Zhang is the editor-in-chief for International Journal of Mechanisms and Robotic Systems, the editor-in-chief for International Journal of Robotics Applications and Technologies, Associate editor for the International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, the International Journal of Robotics and Automation (ACTA publisher) and guest editors for other four international journals.

Dr. Zhang served as a member of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Grant Selection Committee and committee member for the Early Researcher Awards (ERA) program by Ministry of Colleges and Universities Ontario. Dr. Zhang was director of Board of Directors at Durham Region Manufacturing Association and director of Board of Directors of Professional Engineers Ontario, Lake Ontario Chapter. Dr. Zhang is a registered Professional Engineer of Canada, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC), a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and a Fellow of Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME), a Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a Senior Member of SME.

Dr. Hasan Uludağ has been with the University of Alberta since 1997, currently based at the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering. He holds joint appoints at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Uludağ is directing interdisciplinary research programs on experimental therapeutics, specifically focusing of designing functional biomaterials to realize the potential of new, unconventional therapeutic agents. His research activity is conducted in the context of bone regeneration and anti-cancer therapies. Dr. Uludağ is actively involved in various biomaterials societies around the World and is an elected Fellow of the International Union of Society of Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUS-BSE). Besides acting as the lead editor for Frontiers in Biomaterials, he is serving on the editorial board of 6 international journals. Dr. Uludağ published >160 peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Uludağ obtained dual B.Sc. degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Biology from Brown University (Providence, RI) in 1989, specializing in biomedical engineering with a strong emphasis in biological sciences. He then completed his Ph.D. degree in 1993 at the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry at the University of Toronto, where he developed a strong expertise in polymeric biomaterials. He spent four years in an industrial setting (Genetics Institute Inc.; Boston, MA), where he contributed to development of a tissue engineered bone-inducing BMP device for clinical use.

eslie Edwards, Ph.D., is the Director of Corporate Business Development for the College of Engineering and Math Life and Physical Sciences at UC Santa Barbara. With her extensive background in campus-corporate relationship building, Leslie provides insightful guidance to industry collaborators, supporting them with access to faculty and students, strategic planning for heightened corporate visibility, and other key tools to ensure successful industry-university collaborative projects. Before coming to UCSB, Leslie spent a decade working in the biotech industry where she gained experience in corporate research, product development, and management.

Ejembi John Onah started his career at the early age of 22 years with a year mandatory national youth corps service at Biu, Borno State after graduating from University of Jos, Jos Nigeria in 1985 with bachelor of science in chemistry with honors and a Master of Science in Applied Organic Chemistry in 1993. He further took Chemistry teaching positions at Federal Government Colleges Sokoto and Jos in Nigeria and Benue State Universities as a professor with tenure from 1987-1997. In 1996 he was awarded a prestigious German international scholarship; Katholischer Akademischer Ausländerdienst-KAAD to further his career in chemistry at the ivy league institute, the Max Institute for Plant Physiology Golm, Humboldt University of Berlin and University of Würzburg from 1997-1998. In 1998 he became a scientist at Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research and doctoral student at University of Technology, TU Dresden where he obtained his doctorate in Chemistry summa cum laude in examination in 2001. In 2001 to 2004, he joined Virginia Tech and ivy league Cornell University faculties in Chemistry in USA. As from 2005, Ejembi founded Focus Nanotechnology Africa Inc where he is currently the President/CEO. He is also currently the founding Chairman of US-EU-Africa-Asia-Pacific and Caribbean Nanotechnology Initiative (USEACANI) and US-EU-Africa-Asia-Pacific and Caribbean Academy of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (USEACANN) as a professor, pioneering the causes of Nano covering 189 countries. He is also founding Editor-In-Chief of peer review journal; Journal Nanotechnology Progress International (JONPI) with several Nobel Laureates as editors.

Hussein M Elmehdi is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Physics in the department of Applied Physics in the College of Sciences and Dean of Academic Support Services at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.  He received his BSc (1988) in Applied Physics from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and his MSc (1991) and PhD (2001) from the University of Manitoba, Canada.  He served in a number of professional, research, academic and administration positions in the Canada, and the UAE.  He won a number of teaching, research and community and professional service awards.  His research interest   include: environmental and health physics, biomedical application of ultrasound and physics education.
